Short Bio:

Heron Gordilho started his university studies in the course of Civil Engineering at the Federal University of Bahia, but then went on to study law at the same institution, obtaining a law degree from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) in 1988. Then, he obtained a master's degree in law from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in 1996 and a master's degree in social sciences from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in 1999. Afterwards, he obtained a doctorate in law from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), in 2006, with the theme Animal Abolitionism , having been guided by the German jurist Andreas Joachim Krell; and finally the postdoctoral degree in Applied Social Sciences at Pace University in the United States of America, 2011. Heron Gordilho is a prosecutor at the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bahia, currently occupying the 2nd environmental prosecutor's office in Salvador. He is a professor at the Faculty of Law of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), teaching undergraduate, master's and doctoral classes. At UFBA, he was coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Law at the institution, still today he develops his legal studies in the research line "Post-Modern Rights: Bioethics, Cybernetics, Ecology and Animal Law", part of the referred Program, he is editor-in-chief. Head of the Journal of the Graduate Program in Law at UFBA, in addition to being the coordinator of specialization courses with an emphasis on Ecology and Animal Law. He is also research coordinator at the Catholic University of Salvador (UCSAL), where he teaches classes on Environmental Law. At the international level, he has been one of the Brazilians who most stands out in the academic dissemination of Animal Law , having been invited to teach classes and lectures in several foreign institutions in the United States of America, Argentina, Spain, France, Italy , among others. Heron Gordilho is Visiting Professor (Visiting Professor) at the Law School Pace University (United States) at the Faculty of Law, Fordham University (United States), the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) and the University of Tours , former François Rabelais University (France). In 2014, he received the title of Citizen of the City of Salvador, granted by the Salvador City Council . Heron Gordilho is the founder, coordinator and editor-in-chief of Revista Brasileira de Direito Animal , the first Latin American journal specializing in the subject of animal law and was also the founder and first president of the Animal Abolitionist Institute , an association of a scientific and educational nature aimed at the dissemination of law animal . He also participated in the founding of the Latin American Animal Law Association ( ALDA ) on August 29, 2014, an institution founded in the city of Brasilia, during the IV World Congress on Bioethics and Animal Rights , an event promoted by the Animal Abolitionist Institute and occurred on the premises of the Centro Universitário UDF. During this time, Heron Gordilho was elected the first President of the ALDA, and the Costa Rican lawyer Ronny S. Guevara Mora was elected vice-president. He is a member of the editorial board of several Law journals such as the Brazilian Journal of Animal Law (RBDA), the Brazilian Journal of Environmental Law, the Journal of the Postgraduate Program in Law at UFBA, the Journal of Masters in Economic Law at UFBA and the Notebook of Derecho Current. In addition, he is a reviewer of several other journals such as Revista Brasileira de Direito, Revista Científica da FESMPDFT, Revista da Faculdade de Direito at UFMG, Revista DIREITO GV, Electronic Journal of the Master's in Law at UFAL, among others. He is also a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and is Regional Coordinator of the Brazilian American Institute of Law and Environment (BAILE). He develops his research projects and extension topics such as Ethics , Law Animal , Environmental Law , Law Compared Animal, Post-Humanism and constitutional law and has published several books and more than fifty scientific papers.
